John Lindner for Franklin-McKinley School BoardJohn Lindner is a candidate for re-election to the Board of Franklin-McKinley School District.

As a teacher for twenty-one years in San Jose and school board member for the last three and half years, I am committed to helping students, parents, school staff, community partners and other stakeholders meet the challenges of the next generation. I will work with teachers and parents to create schools where healthy, well-fed kids can safely learn, where drugs and violence will not be tolerated, where effective alternatives are offered to our children, and where teachers are supported in doing what they do best -- teach!

We must continue building on the basics of reading, math and science to empower our students to be problem solvers and collaborative, competitive workers. We need to emphasize critical thinking skills and instruction that promotes hands-on experiences with the everyday world.

We need to support students who choose college and those who choose technical/vocational paths. Working together as board, staff, parents and students, we must plan, build and adequately fund creative new schools; we must stabilize district funding. Who knows better than parents what their kids need? Who knows better than teachers, on the front line every day with students, what those students need to meet their parents' goals, hopes and expectations? Working together, we will provide the best possible education.

I want to hear from you about what you think the Franklin-McKinley School District needs. You may contact me by e-mail at jglindner@yahoo.com, by phone at (408) 314-2300.
